IMPORTANT RULES IN SELECTING COURSES TO REGISTER

The following points are of outmost importance and have to be noted by the students before they proceed with on-line course registration. Please note that the below-given instructions are default values and are subject to change in line with Department/ Faculty Policy:

- Courses should be taken in their sequence in the curriculum (program) of the department 'In other words, students should not register for higher level courses if there are courses that they have not taken at lower levels (i.e'courses of previous years)'

-If one cannot find a slot for a course in the eight semesters plan of the curriculum, that course must be taken non-credit.
- Prerequisite relations and requirements for courses are followed strictly.

-The general rule is that a student can take electives from the year before and after; i.e. a third year student (a junior) may take 2XX or 4XX in addition to 3XX courses. The rule does not apply to Humanities and Social Sciences courses or Language courses. The list of electives (D2 or C or H) is announced by the departments themselves. Free electives are not announced; they are unrestricted.

-If two courses have more than one hour of conflict a student may not take both courses.

-Students may repeat courses with DD, DC grades . Courses with a CC grade or higher may not be repeated.
- Students should register for the normal course load corresponding to the semester of the student. A Normal Course load is defined as the plus or minus 2 of the average course load per semester. The Average course load is calculated by the dividing the total credit load of an undergraduate program by 8, truncated to the nearest digit. [Check your curriculum page on Student-ON-Line and add up all the credits given in the 8 semesters of your curriculum and divide it by 8 and round it to the nearest digit]

-The upper limit of your normal course load will then be 2 credits more of your average course load.

  • Students with GPA between 3.00-4.00 may overload without any approval as long as they do not exceed the normal course load by eight credits.
  • Students with GPA between 2.50-2.99 may overload without any approval as long as they do not exceed the normal course load by four credits. They may overload up to eight credits by approval of the faculty executive board.
  • Students with GPA between 2.00-2.49 may overload only by approval of the faculty executive board and they are not allowed to exceed the normal course load by four credits.
  • Repeating students (GPA<1.50) or students in probation (1.50<GPA>1.99) may not overload with the exception of graduating senior class students. Graduating senior students in repeating or probation status may overload if faculty executive board approves such overload. They may take new courses if their load justifies.

- Students have to keep their GPAs at 2.00 or higher at all times during their undergraduate studies.

  • A student whose GPA is below 2.00 is considered unsuccessful'
  • A student whose GPA is between 1.50 and 1.99 is in PROBATION status.
  • A student whose GPA is below 1.50 is in REPEATING status.
  • Probation and repeating students are subject to certain restrictions in registering for courses:

Repeating students (GPA<1.50) or students in probation (1.50?GPA?1.99) must first repeat courses with a grade F;then, upon approval of the faculty executive board;repeating students must repeat courses with a grade DD and DC, students in probation must repeat courses with a grade DD, may repeat courses with a grade DC.

-Students must repeat all F graded courses the very next semester it is offered'If the course is a required course then it must be repeated'If it is an elective course then either it must be repeated or another elective course must be taken'If the course is no longer offered in the undergraduate curriculum (i.e'if the course is cancelled forever), students register for another course that is approved by the Board of Faculty.

-Late registration is subject to a fine of 10% of the tuition. Registration is under no circumstances allowed after the late registration period.
